COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 update: 27th August 2020

August 2020

Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Malo e Lelei, Talofa Lava, Fakalofa Lahi Atu, Greetings

We would like to thank you for your fantastic support during Alert Level 3. We would also like to say “well done” to our children who have been working hard with their learning packs and their online work. Our teachers have been thrilled with the amazing commitment towards learning.

Our children’s and staff’s health is a priority. Therefore, to begin with, the following guidelines will be in place at BMPS.

  • Children will be welcomed back to BMPS on the 31 August.

  • The gates will open for children at 8.30am.

  • At school the children will be in 3 bubbles (Kiwi, Tui and Kahu).

  • The 3 in-school bubbles will have staggered morning tea and lunch breaks.

  • No parents/caregivers will be allowed on-site unless they are enrolling children or they are collecting a sick/injured child from the office.

  • There will be a staggered home time: Kahu 2:40pm, Tui 2.40pm and Kiwi at 2.45pm. Kahu and Tui children will meet their siblings under the canopy.

  • Parents/Caregivers can collect their children from outside of the school gates (please ensure that your children know which gate).

  • There will not be a tuck shop.

  • Children will take home all wrappers and uneaten food items.

  • Scooters, skateboards and bikes are not allowed at school.

  • Children need to bring their own water bottle.

  • Children must stay at home if they are sick.

Parents and caregivers, please let BMPS know if your child is going to be absent and why they are absent (09 274 8271 office@bmps.school.nz)

  • Children do not need to wear a mask but will be supported if they choose to wear one.

A special reminder for all Kahu tamariki who took home a device- please bring this back on your return to school.

  • Bairds Kindergarten will be open and the Kindy staff will contact you about dropping off and picking up children.

  • Skids will be open- collecting children from SKiDS must be done at the Leslie Place alleyway gate.

We would like to acknowledge that this has been a tough year for many. There is support available for businesses and the community. We encourage you to go to covid19.govt.nz for more information or please get in touch and we will help you to find the information and support that you need.

COVID-19 update: 25th August 2020

Kia Ora Whānau

As per the NZ Government announcement BMPS will open for our children on Monday 31 August. We are very excited about being back at school with our tamariki.

Things will be different for a while, as our children and staff’s health and safety is a priority. In the next day or so we will email/publish a letter which will outline the guidelines that we are putting in place.

Please note that this Friday (28 August) our teachers will put learning in your child/children’s google classroom but the teachers will not be online as they will be preparing their classes for school on Monday.

Thank you for your amazing support.

Have a great day.

COVID-19 update: 16th August 2020

ONLINE LEARNING BEGINS TOMORROW IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BMPS ONLINE LEARNING

Kia Ora Whānau

As you know, online learning begins for all of our children tomorrow-Monday 17th August. We would like to thank all of our amazing teachers who have been working hard to get this learning ready for our children.

BMPS learning packs and online learning can be supplemented by the material that is being provided by the Ministry of Education on TV and you can also access ideas through the MoE website.

If you have not already done so, and have a device/internet, it is important that you support your child to access their online google classroom. Instructions and your child’s email and password should have been emailed/texted to you. If you did not receive this information you can email your child’s class teacher (email address below).

Our teachers are excited about ‘seeing’ their children online.

It is vital to know that we are not expecting children to work for five hours every day. There may be good days and not so good days. Support your children when you can. On days when they are not as focused, go with the flow and let your children have some time out.

Here is a reminder of the tips that we previously shared from 12 year old Tia, who used to attend BMPS:

FOR THE ADULTS

  • Don’t stress if your child is struggling-get them to stop and do another activity.

  • Don’t panic about your child having to finish work-they won’t finish everything. Get them to do what they can, really well.

  • Help your child if they need it! (plan times when you aren’t busy with your own work).

  • Your child doesn’t need to be working 24/7.

  • Plan fun things for you to do with your child-baking, building, watching a movie together.

FOR THE CHILDREN

  • Make sure that you have all of your stuff ready each day-pens, pencils, etc.

  • Try to work in a quiet space with something to lean on and with no distractions.

  • Do as much work as you can and don’t panic if you don’t finish it all.

  • Leave the fun tasks for last.

  • Don’t work all day- take breaks for snacks and exercise.

  • If you are struggling, ask someone for help. If no one can help, do it how you think it is meant to be done (and you can always email your teacher).

  • Have fun while you are learning at home!

There is a lot of great advice here!

Where do you get help?

For any technical issues with school devices, please contact Fusion Service Desk Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm:

+64 9 801 2800

Please note, this service desk is only for school devices. Before you ring check that:

  • the device has been charged

  • wifi on the device is turned on

  • the wifi in your house is turned on

If your child needs any help with their online learning, please email your child’s class teacher or get your child to email their teacher/comment to their teacher in their google classroom. For children with no access to the internet- use the learning pack and the educational tv programmes. Baking, reading, helping in the garden, playing lego, sketching, doing science experiments together and so on, are all great learning activities.

Bairds Mainfreight will reopen at Alert Level 2 for all children, on Monday 18th May.

For the first two weeks in Alert Level 2 the following guidelines will apply at BMPS. We are putting these guidelines in place to keep our children safe from Covid-19 and to avoid the risks of infection. They will also help with contact tracing should that become necessary.

    • The gates will open for children at 8.30am and will be closed at 9.15 am.

    • In school the children will be restricted to 3 bubbles (Kiwi, Tui and Kahu).

    • The 3 in-school bubbles will have staggered morning tea and lunch breaks.
